Freedom Ride 2010 was a 1,033 mile loop throughout our beautiful Oregon State. We began on Saturday July 3rd leaving Lake Oswego to Estacada. On the way, we watched the sad sight of a deer getting hit by the pickup truck in front of us. Fortunately, it was quick and no one was hurt. The two young guys in the truck were hunters, able to put the deer quickly out of it's misery. Diana and I were extremely grateful that the deer did not collide with us. We continued along the Clackamas River, through Detroit Lake and over Santiam Pass to visit our friends Lisa and Steve in Bend.
On Sunday July 4th, we left Bend, following Century Drive out behind Mt. Bachelor and along the Cascade Lakes Loop. We then continued on to Crater Lake. AMAZING!!! From Crater Lake we rode to Klamath Falls catching glimpses of Mt. Shasta off in the distance. After a quick dinner at a local Brew Pub, we rode on to Lakeview to stay the night and enjoy fireworks from the balcony of our hotel room.
On the morning of July 5th, we rode south down Route 395 just to cross into California, a first for the Harley. We rode back north, had breakfast, gathered our belongings and continued north up Route 395 towards Burns. We stopped to enjoy a break and the desert scenery. After lunch in Burns, we continued our ride up to John Day. There we stayed at the local Best Western. We enjoyed the pool and a local Pizza Pub.
We left John Day on the morning of July 6th, to enjoy one of the most incredible drives along Route 26. We stopped in Fossil to take in the scenery. We then continued on through the Ochoco Forest, through Prineville, Government Camp and back home to Lake Oswego.
It was a great ride, great weather, great scenery and a great continuation of our great honeymoon, despite all of the dead bugs!
