The Proposal ~ February 14th, 2010
February 14th, 2010
On February 14th, Valentines Day, I wrestled with the question in my heart - is it time to ask Diana Lynn Gibbons to marry me.  Everything about our relationship is incredible.  She is as beautiful and lovely a woman as any man could hope to know and love.  We are incredibly compatible in so many ways AND she is an incredible cook (BONUS!).  And yet, despite all of her amazing qualities, I still wrestled.  Following the advice of my good friend and mentor Pastor Gary, he told me that if this was the right relationship, God would grant peace in my heart.  The morning of Valentines Day, I prayed and asked God for such peace.

Diana and I drove out to the farthest corner of Northwest Oregon, out past Fort Stevens Park to the mouth of the Columbia River.  It was an incredibly dark, gloomy, rainy morning.  Rain was pouring everywhere.  In other words - it was a typical February day in Oregon.  As we proceeded north out to the point, the clouds literally parted above us.  The sky became a pristine blue surrounded by dark clouds.  There was still rain to the east of us, rain to the west of us and rain before us to the north.  I looked in my rear view mirror and sure enough, there was rain to the south of us.  There were rain and clouds everywhere except right above us.  I realized then God wouldn't give me a clearer sign in Oregon than this pocket of blue sky and sunshine right above us.

Diana and I walked out to the breakers and there I asked her to be my wife and mate for life.

She said yes!

When I finally told my mom she said, "What took you so long?"

Thank you Lord!  Diana is an incredible gift from God!

I am the lucky one!
